family visit

My brother, Rick and niece and nephew, Nicole and Matt, came from New Jersey for a visit last week. They hadn't been here since we were married 10 years ago. They changed, we changed and boy had Austin changed. They live in rural New Jersey, lakes, mountains and even bears, so we try to do city things but couldn't resist a trip to Hamilton's Pool. I think the highlight though was Eeyore's birthday, they got a truly unique Austin experience there.

Megan and Greg's Wedding

Megan and Greg's wedding took place on a beautiful spring day in happening downtown Austin. Between the annual art fair, a fund raising walk and theater goers, the streets were bustling. Amy and Scott of Amy's Platinum Weddings and Events navigated us through it all without a hitch.
The ceremony took place in one of downtowns' most treasured buildings, the historic St. Mary's Catholic church. From there we grabbed the wedding party and visited Austin's newest pride and joy, the Long Center for the Performing Arts, for a few shots with a great view and amazing architecture.
Next it was dinner and dancing at the swanky Stephen F. Austin Hotel. First a few drinks in the bar, cocktail hour with the guests and then into the ballroom, set elegantly with long tables and flower arrangements by Stacey Hogge of Petal Pushers. We worked alongside Jeff Marrow, I would love to see his video footage of the best man singing his toast. And to top it all off the cake was so delicious and the band had the guests jumping all night.

Gena and Chad's wedding at the Barr Mansion

This past Sunday at the Barr Mansion Gena and Chad were married. The wedding party and guests were as beautiful as the day and the gardens. Chad, a metal worker, crafted a wonderful arch for them to be married under. Gena, a lover of plants, chose potted orchids for the tables.

The Barr Mansion, the only certified organic events venue in Austin, provided a delicious vegetarian feast. Gena and Chad made the wonderfully unusual choice of a reggae band, The Stingers, for the reception, and they kept the party jamming.

Lonestar Rod and Kustom Round Up

It's that time of year again. The Lonestar Rod and Kustom Round Up is in Austin again. Check out all the hot rods, rockers, greasers, and hanger-ons strutting their stuff on South Congress and at the Expo Center this weekend. This is a most fascinating sub-culture. And with over 700 entries into the car show this year, and thousands of rubberneckers, I would imagine you couldn't be driving anywhere this weekend without noticing this events impact. -brian

On my way home from Hyde Parks' Dharma Yoga this morning I drove past this blooming Tulip Magnolia. So beautiful.

Caleb and Martha's wedding at the Barr Mansion

We shot Caleb and Martha's wedding last weekend at the Barr Mansion. We had such a great time. What a fun bunch of people! There was hardly an image where someone wasn't smiling. The ceremony took place in the barn where the chairs were set up in a semi-circle. This ended up making the setting very intimate with the bride and groom literally being surrounded by family and friends. There were many beautiful readings and musicians, who were friends, played. Here are some of our favorites photos from the day.

Austin Texas sunset

Last night, we drove out to our friends Dave and Emilie's house in Dripping Springs and experienced a wonderful sunset. These are two photos taken on Hamilton's Pool Road on the way out there. The driving was a little hard but damn beautiful.

Happy Thanksgiving

We spent the Thanksgiving holiday in New Jersey where the fall colors were peaking. All the crazy yellow, orange and red leaves. It was really eye-popping!

Rachel and Kevin's Austin, Texas destination wedding

We shot Rachel and Kevin's destination wedding at Green Pastures in Austin this past weekend. The couple live in Los Angeles and planned for a beautiful outdoor ceremony on the grounds of this historic victorian home built in 1895. The day turned out to be awesomely beautiful. Coby Neil's flowers were incredible and Grady Gaines and the Texas Upsetters rocked the house all evening. Here is a small sample of the many lovely images that the day provided.

Rockit party at Club Deville

We went to the Rockit Party at Club Deville over the weekend. It was a ton of fun. The Supersonic Soul Squad danced, B-Boy City performed, Brownout played and special guest Afrika Bambaatta was rocking the turntables. It was our 10th wedding anniversary! I went to go and see Canyon of the Skull play at Room 710 on Thursday night and grabbed this band shot outside the club.

Austin Cityscapes

Woke up ridiculously early today. So decided to take advantage of the unfortunate fact and went out and shot some austin cityscapes. The top one is from the newly opened Observation Hill that is part of the new park that opened on Riverside Drive. It provides a wonderful view of downtown Austin.

Chris Vestre Band cd release

Last night I went to see jazz guitarist, Chris Vestre, play at the Continental Club upstairs promoting his new cd "Suburban Life". It was an amazing set. If you are interested in hearing some great jazz, his band will be playing the Continental again on Thursday, October 25th. Also, check out the cd at Waterloo Records. I did the cover and cd package photos for it.
